The installation is characterized by two enormous enclosures made of adjacent domes that each imitate a different natural biome and contains thousands of different plant varieties. The biomes are made up of thousands of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE)-inflated hexagonal and pentagonal cells that are reinforced by geodesic tubular steel domes. The larger of the two micro climates mimics a rainforest atmosphere (and is the largest hotel rainforest in the world), while the smaller biome resembles a Mediterranean setting.

The Core hosts art shows all year long as well. The anteroom is home to Peter Randall-permanent Page's installation, Seed. A massive, 70-ton egg-shaped stone sculpture called Seed has a complicated pattern of protrusions based on the geometrical and mathematical concepts that govern plant growth. It is about 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and weighs 70 tonnes.

The Eden Project offers environmental education that emphasizes the interconnectedness of plants and people; the medical properties of each plant are noted. Sanitized rainwater that would otherwise accumulate at the bottom of the quarries is used to supply the enormous amounts of water needed to maintain the humid climate of the Tropical Biome and to supply the restrooms. Only washing clothes and cooking are done with mains water. The complex also makes use of Green Tariff Electricity, which is generated by one of Cornwall's numerous wind turbines, which are amongst the first in all of Europe. In December 2010 the Eden Project received permission to build a geothermal electricity plant that will generate approx 4MWe, enough to supply Eden and about 5000 households. The project will involve geothermal heating as well as geothermal electricity. Cornwall Council and the European Union came up with the greater part of £16.8m required to start the project. First, a well will be sunk nearly 3 miles (4.5 km) into the granite crust underneath Eden. we very enjoy our journey so much.
